What Kind of Mechanic Do You Want to Be?
Automotive Excellence

Automotive Technology Training Program
The days of grease monkey mechanics at the local garage are long gone. Today’s cars are complex machines run by sophisticated computer systems. And the people who fix those cars are highly paid automotive technicians, not car mechanics.

Our Automotive Technology program provides the knowledge and skills you need to become a successful entry-level automotive technician. You’ll learn how to diagnose, service, and repair domestic and foreign cars. Troubleshoot problems using the latest equipment. Build high-performance engines. And learn essential business skills that will make your career a long and successful one.

Former Co-host of Spike TV's "Xtreme 4X4" "At WyoTech, I received the skill set necessary to take me as far as my imagination will lead me." Jessi Combs' motto, "It's not how big you are in the fight; it's how big the fight is in you," has taken her a long way. She declined a scholarship to a prestigious interior design school to attend WyoTech so she could pursue her life-long dream to work with automobiles. Earning top grades and an academic scholarship, she was hired by WyoTech on graduation to build a custom car that would represent the school in one of the world's premier auto shows.
That led to her participation in two television shows, which sparked a new passion and eventually a position co-hosting the popular "Xtreme 4X4" series on Spike TV. Who knows where her dreams will carry her next?
Why you should become an automotive mechanic
With the proper training, automobile repair and maintenance is the route to relatively stable and well paying employment. For now and the near future, vehicles will continue to be our main mode of transportation. The fact is that oil reserves are finite, even if you take onto account environmental concerns.
Collectively, we have vehicles that are our favorite mode of transport for work and leisure; there are plenty out there ranging from brand new down to tired old workhorses that are battered and dented. A scheduled maintenance is always needed for these cars to work properly and efficiently. To prevent breakdowns and larger repair bills at a later date, a regular servicing is advised. Regular services such as topping up essential vehicle fluids, replacing worn brake pads and tires, and replacing mufflers also help to keep a vehicle safe. Vehicles are using more and more electronic devices that are failing regularly. A competent
car mechanic should be able to identify the fault and replace the appropriate parts. Providing a service to ensure that people have reliable vehicles that are safe to drive, is a role of an auto mechanic.

Finding a good auto repair facility is always a concern, especially when the unexpected happens. One important thing to remember is to look for ASE Certification.
ASE-certified automotive technicians and other service professionals can be identified in several ways. The most obvious is to look for the ASE sign on the facility. Once inside, most establishments proudly display the ASE certificates earned by their technicians in their office or waiting room. Finally, the technicians may be wearing an ASE patch on the shoulder of their uniform. All ASE-certified professionals are proud of their achievement and are more than willing to show you their credentials.
ASE has years of experience helping the automotive industry verify the skills and knowledge of the technicians working at dealerships, independent repair shops, collision shops, franchises, fleets, and more. Car owners and the service and repair industry regard ASE certification as the standard measure of competency and a guide to quality auto repairs.
ASE has taken this responsibility one step further by offering a recognition opportunity for highly qualified repair facilities, which allows them to showcase their technicians and their commitment to excellence. It is called the Blue Seal of Excellence Recognition Program. The program’s emphasis is to identify establishments with a large percentage of ASE-certified professionals. It is a recognition program for businesses striving to be the best, and willing to prove their commitment.
